So, to recap, 1) CARROT's not going anywhere, 2) the Dark Sky API will be around for another 20 months, 3) more details to come on the transition, and 4) the redesign is coming along great and is going to blow you the fuck away. It's much too early to answer specific questions like "who will be the new default provider" - I need to negotiate with the different providers and figure out what makes the most sense in terms of functionality, accuracy for the largest number of users, and financials. I've already personally spoken with the teams at a number of different weather providers and I am working to ensure that they'll fill any holes left by Dark Sky going away, such as the short-term rain forecast. This very generous shutdown window gives me lots of time to plan for any upcoming changes. If you’re in love with CARROT (and who isn’t ) and have 15 burning-a-hole in your pocket, it might be a fun purchase, but there isn’t any difference or benefit to having the Mac app as well as iOS. I use Carrot with Ultra because it has so many features, but I can also recommend Hello Weather, which has amongst other The Weather Channel as a source (very accurate), and Weather Strip, which updates once an hour, uses NOAA and Foreca, and has the best design of all weather app ever imo. Forget about forecasts-Dark Sky can't even manage to get the "current weather" consistently right in NYC.
